Bercovici, Shorewomen to Open Spring Regionally-Ranked
SKILLMAN, NJ -- The Washington College women's tennis team is ranked seventh in the Atlantic South region in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Men's Division III Preseason Rankings. In addition, sophomore Amanda Bercovici (Hackensack, NJ/Bergen Tech) is ranked 20th in the region in singles.
The Shorewomen finished last season with a 16-4 overall record and a 9-1 Centennial Conference record and advanced to the Centennial Conference Championship match for the second time in three years.
Bercovici was an All-Centennial Conference second-team selection in both singles and doubles as a freshman in 2010-11, posting a 19-3 mark across the top three singles spots, and a 15-5 mark in doubles, primarily at No. 2. She reached the third round of championship singles at this fall's ITA Southeast Regionals.
Among the Shorewomen's other returning players is senior Jordan Finnegan (Wilmington, DE/Archmere Academy), a three-time All-Centennial Conference first-team selection in both singles and doubles. She went 17-5 across the top three singles spots in 2010-11 and posted a a 20-3 record in doubles, including an 18-2 mark, at No. 1.
The Shorewomen are one of five Centennial Conference teams ranked in the Atlantic South region, joining Johns Hopkins (third), Swarthmore (11th), Muhlenberg (13th), and Haverford (19th).
The Shorewomen open their spring 2011 dual-match schedule, their first under head coach David Donn, March 3rd with a Centennial Conference home match against Dickinson.
