Kim Lessard enters her 23rd year as head coach of Washington’s men's swimming team and her 24th as head coach of Washington's women's swimming team. Lessard’s teams have continuously performed well in the pool and she has coached WC swimmers to a total of 26 All-America and All-America honorable mention performances. Through the 2012-13 season, her combined dual meet record at WC is 314-189-1.
Her swimmers are also strong in the classroom; her teams are often awarded with Academic All-American recognition. Under Lessard’s leadership, the Shoremen and Shorewomen swim teams have become involved in numerous community service projects including: a triathlon for cancer, an adopt-a-family-for Christmas program, the Special Olympics and a Learn to Swim program for third-graders.
Lessard earned her bachelor’s degree from Penn State University and her Masters degree from Washington College. In addition to coaching, she serves as the Aquatic Director for Washington’s Casey Swim Center and is a physical education instructor.
In the summer, Lessard coaches the Sho’men Aquatics age group team, which has won the Delmarva Championships four times in six years. She also competes in US Masters Swimming. Lessard lives in Chestertown with her husband, Dan, and daughters, Devin and Kelsey.
Lessard was inducted into the Washington College Hall of Fame in October 2006. She began a four-year term on the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Committee in the fall of 2010. She has coached at NCAA Division III Championship meets 15 of the past 22 years.
