Miskiel Wins 200 Breaststroke
SWARTHMORE, PA -- Host Swarthmore College posted a 110-82 Centennial Conference women's swimming victory over visiting Washington College this evening.
The Garnet won each of the first eight events before entering the final three events as exhibitions only. Washington junior Ellie Miskiel (Gaithersburg, MD/Quince Orchard) finished first overall - including Swarthmore's exhibition entrants - in the 200 breaststroke, the meet's penultimate event, in 2:30.65.
Sophomore Ashley Maurizi (Reamstown, PA/Cocalico) placed second in two events for the Shorewomen, swimming a Washington College season-best time of 11:32.68 in the 1000 freestyle and finishing the 100 freestyle in 59.51. Freshman Julianna Fritzinger (Red Lion, PA/Red Lion Area) placed second in the 200 individual medley in 2:22.21, while sophomore Alicia Howard (Wilmington, DE/Charter School of Wilmington) was second in the 200 backstroke in 2:27.41.
Junior Carly Ogren (Burke, VA/Lake Braddock) picked up the first-place points in the 500 freestyle with the third-fastest overall time of 5:39.33. Maurizi, sophomore Clair Belleveau/Easton, CT/Joel Barlow), senior Allison Kvien (Mechanicsville, MD/Chopticon), and senior Sarah Sykes (Haworth, NU/Northern Valley-Demarest) received the first-place points in the 400 freestyle relay with the third-fastest overall time of 4:04.85.
The Shorewomen (3-6, 1-4 Centennial) return to action Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home meet against Ursinus.
