Miskiel Captures Silver Medal for Shorewomen at Franklin & Marshall Invitational
LANCASTER, PA -- The Washington College women's swim team competed at the Franklin & Marshall Invitation Friday, yesterday, and today. The Shorewomen finished ninth of nine teams in the final team standings.
Junior Ellie Miskiel (Gaithersburg, MD/Quince Orchard) captured the silver medal in the 200 breaststroke for the Shorewomen with a time of 2:28.30. She swam a Washington College season-best time of 2:27.74 in the preliminaries to improve upon her own third-fastest time in school history. She was also fourth in the 100 breaststroke in a WC season-best 1:09.01 to better her own sixth-fastest time in school history. She also led off Washington's 800 freestyle relay team with a WC season-best 2:01.40 in the 200 freestyle to become the school's 10th-fastest swimmer ever in that event, led off the 200 freestyle relay with a WC season-best 25.72 50 freestyle time, and led off the 400 freestyle relay with a WC season-best 55.98 100 freestyle time.
Junior Carly Ogren (Burke, VA/Lake Braddock) placed sixth in the 500 freestyle for the Shorewomen in a WC season-best 5:25.29. She was 12th in both the 200 freestyle (a WC season-best 2:02.04) and the 50 freestyle (matching Miskiel's WC season-best 25.72).
Senior Sarah Sykes (Haworth, NJ/Northern Valley-Demarest) placed seventh in the 200 butterfly in 2:23.60 after swimming a WC season-best 2:23.50 in the preliminaries. In the preliminaries of the 100 butterfly, she swam a WC season-best 1:06.09.
Sophomore Alicia Howard (Wilmington, DE/Charter School of Wilmington) scored points in both backstroke events for Washington, placing eighth in the 200 backstroke in 2:21.95 after swimming a WC season-best 2:19.32 in the preliminaries and 16th in the 100 backstroke in 1:05.71. She also led off the 400 medley relay with a WC season-best 1:04.46 100 backstroke leg.
Freshman Julianna Fritzinger (Red Lion, PA/Red Lion Area) placed 10th in the 200 breaststroke in 2:35.37 to become the Shorewomen's 10th-fastest swimmer ever in that event. She was also 16th in the 100 breaststroke in 1:13.77 and swam a WC season-best 5:04.07 in the preliminaries of the 400 individual medley.
Senior Allison Kvien (Mechanicsville, MD/Chopticon) took 12th in the 200 breaststroke in 2:37.40 and 15th in the 1650 freestyle in 19:32.58.
Washington's top relay finish came in the 200 freestyle relay where Miskiel, Howard, Sykes, and Ogren took eighth place in a Washington College season-best 1:43.80.
Division II California University (PA) finished first in the women's team standings at the meet. Host Franklin & Marshall was second, St. Mary's third, Susquehanna fourth, Division II Kutztown fifth, Widener sixth, Ramapo seventh, and McDaniel eighth.
The Shorewomen return to action Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. non-conference home meet against Widener.
