CHESTERTOWN, Md. -- Washington College head women's rowing coach Dr. Mike Davenport has announced that seniors Valeria DiLisi (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) and Abigail Thomas (Hughesville, Md./Thomas Stone) and junior Krystal Brostek (Galloway, N.J./Absegami) will serve as the team's captains for the 2013-14 academic year.
Last spring, DiLisi sat in the three seat of the Shorewomen's first varsity eight, which won the Division III event at Knecht Cup, captured the Lela Kerr Cup, finished first at the Mid-Atlantic Rowing Conference (MARC) Championships, and finished fifth of eight boats at the NCAA Division III Championships. Meanwhile, Brostek sat stroke and Thomas was the coxswain in the Shorewomen's second varsity eight, which placed second in the Division III event at Knecht Cup, took second in the Division III race at Kerr Cup, placed second at the MARC, and placed sixth of six boats at the NCAA Division III Championships.
DiLisi has spent most of her collegiate rowing career in the Shorewomen's top boat and was named to the All-MARC Novice team as a freshman in 2011. Thomas is a two-time MARC Academic All-Conference and two-time CRCA National Scholar-Athlete qualifier.
The Washington College women's rowing team won its third MARC Championship in five years last spring and earned its first-ever full-team bid to the NCAA Division III Championships. The Shorewomen will open their fall schedule October 13th at the Occoquan Chase.
