CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College women's basketball team improved to 4-0 on the young season last night with its first-ever road win over Johns Hopkins, defeating the Blue Jays by a 53-51 count. The Shorewomen, who won their final five games of last season, own the longest current win streak in NCAA Division III women's basketball at nine games in a row.

Freshman guard Ashley Espinosa (Reading, PA/Governor Mifflin) leads the Shorewomen in scoring this season, averaging 14.8 points per game. Junior forward Erin Fitzgerald (Greensboro, NC/Bishop McGuiness) is averaging a double-double of 11.2 points and 11.0 rebounds per contest, while junior forward/center Latisha Pledger (Chesapeake, VA/Indian River) is averaging a Centennial Conference-leading 15.8 rebounds per game to go along with 9.2 points per game. The Shorewomen have held their opponents to just 27.2% shooting from the field this season.
The Shorewomen's next game is slated for this Saturday when they will host defending Centennial Conference Champion Muhlenberg at 2:00 p.m. That game will be the first half of a men's and women's basketball double-header. The Shoremen will also host Muhlenberg with a tip time of 4:00 p.m. for that contest.
