Shoremen to Open Spring Regionally-Ranked

SKILLMAN, NJ -- The Washington College men's tennis team is ranked 13th in the Atlantic South region in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Men's Division III Preseason Rankings. The Shoremen finished last season with a 9-9 record and advanced to the five-team Centennial Conference Tournament.

Senior Kevin Papen (Dover, DE/Caesar Rodney) is the team's top returning player. A two-time All-Centennial Conference player in doubles and a 2010 selection in singles, Papen finished 11-8 in singles, including a 10-7 record at No. 2, and 14-4 in doubles in 2010-11. Fellow senior Aaron Ellison (Largo, FL/St. Petersburg) joined Papen on the 2011 All-Centennial first team for doubles and played primarily at No. 3 and No. 4 singles last season.

The Shoremen are one of five Centennial Conference teams in the preseason regional rankings. Johns Hopkins is ranked third, Swarthmore ninth, Franklin & Marshall 12th, and Haverford 14th.

The Shoremen open their spring 2011 dual-match schedule, their first under head coach David Donn, March 12th with a non-conference match at Averett.
