Wendeborn Named Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Week

LANCASTER, Pa. -- Washington College freshman goalkeeper Jon Wendeborn (Lambertville, N.J./South Hunterdon) has been named the Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Week for men's soccer for the week ending October 20th.

Wendeborn took over in goal after a scoreless first half between the Shoremen and Gettysburg on Saturday. He made four saves, three of them after freshman midfielder Drew Thompson (Dumfries, Va./Woodbridge) scored the game's only goal in the 51st minute, as the Shoremen posted a 1-0 victory. It was the first collegiate victory for Wendeborn and the Shoremen's first Centennial Conference win of the season. The win gave the Shoremen seven overall victories on the year, their most since finishing 8-8 in 2006 and gave Washington back-to-back wins over Gettysburg for the first time since the 1959 and 1960 seasons.
