Varsity Eight Finishes Fourth in Petite Final
CHERRY HILL, NJ -- The Washington College men's rowing team's varsity four won its heat and finished sixth in the final at the Murphy Cup today in Cherry Hill, NJ. The Shoremen's varsity eight placed fourth in its heat and fourth in the petite final.
The Shoremen's varsity four won its heat in 8:00.68. Pennsylvania's lightweight four was second in 8:05.10, Susquehanna was third in 8:45.94, Loyola's "B" boat was fourth in 9:03.96, and Duquesne was fifth in 9:08.76. In the final, Washington was sixth in 8:07.17. Colgate won the race in 7:46.82, Loyola "A" was second in 7:50.47, Rutgers-Camden "A" was third in 7:54.47, Drexel "A" was fourth in 7:57.25, and Franklin & Marshall was fifth in 8:01.87.
The Shoremen's varsity eight was fourth of five boats in its heat in 7:32.33. Drexel won the heat in 6:53.34, Pennsylvania's lightweights were second in 7:03.50, Marist was third in 7:17.57, and Richmond was fifth in 8:40.04. In the petite final, Washington finished fourth of six boats. Saint Joseph's won the race ion 6:45.52, La Salle was second in 6:47.51, Marist was third in 6:55.92, Delaware was fifth in 7:10.56, and North Carolina was sixth in 7:12.31.
Junior Jeff Nutting (Catonsville, MD/Mount St. Joseph) was the coxswain of the Shoremen's varsity four. Freshman Ian Briggs (Huntsville, AL/The Gow School [NY]) sat stroke, sophomore Jack McCarthy (Long Beach Island, NJ/The Hun School) was in the three seat, freshman Brian Zohorsky (Ellicott City, MD/Mt. Hebron) sat in the two seat, and freshman Ben Sproule (Princeton, NJ/Princeton) was the bow.
Sophomore Chris Moylan (Silver Spring, MD/DeMatha) was the coxswain of the Shoremen's varsity eight. Junior Robert Storck (Wilton, CT/St. Mark's School [MA]) sat stroke, sophomore Conor Howlett (Tampa, FL/H.B. Plant) was in the seven seat, junior Parker McIntosh (Berlin, MD/Worcester Prep) was in the six seat, senior Sean Harrison (Richmond, VA/Hazelton Area [PA]) sat in the five seat, senior Miqdad Annab (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) was in the four seat, sophomore Rob Billings (Easton, MD/Easton) sat in the three seat, sophomore Anthony Cairo (Port Murray, NJ/Warren Hills) sat in the two seat, and sophomore Dominic DiMarino (Wilmington, DE/Concord) was the bow.
The Shoremen return to action one week from today with a home regatta against St. Mary's.
