Shoremen Win Three of Four Races Against Philadelphia U.
CHESTERTOWN, MD – The Washington College men's rowing team won three of four races against Philadelphia University, a Division II school, this morning on the Chester River.
Sophomores Lawrence Baker (Shady Side, MD/Southern) and Mitch Witherow (Ocean City, MD/Stephen Decatur) won the men's varsity pair for the Shoremen in 8:41. Philadelphia University finished in 9:24. In the men's varsity eight, Washington finished one-two as the first varsity eight won in 6:49 and the second varsity eight was second in 7:01, and Philadelphia U. was third in 7:06. The Shoremen won the men's novice four in 8:21 to Philadelphia University's 8:40. In the men's varsity four, Philadelphia University won in 7:27, while Washington finished in 7:42.
Washington's varsity eight was coxswained by senior Susanne Vaughn (Bel Air, MD/John Carroll). Sophomore Robert Storck (Wilton, CT/St. Mark's School [MA]) sat stroke, senior Reno Smith (Ocean City, MD/Worcester Prep) was in the seven seat, sophomore Parker McIntosh (Berlin, MD/Worcester Prep) sat in the six seat, junior Sean Harrison (Richmond, VA/Hazelton Area [PA]) was in the five seat, junior Miqdad Annab (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) sat in the four seat, graduate student Brandon Riker (Marlboro, VT/Twin Valley) sat in the three seat, senior Michael Zaborskiy (Novosibirsk City, Russia/American School of Bangkok [Thailand]) was in the two seat, and sophomore Kyle Benk (Bloomsburry, NJ/Phillipsburg) was the bow.
Freshman Chris Moylan (Silver Spring, MD/DeMatha) was the coxswain of the Shoremen's second varsity eight. Freshman Nick Stewart (Greenwich, CT/Greenwich) sat stroke, freshman Blake Weishaar (Denton, MD/Sts. Peter & Paul) was in the seven seat, freshman Conor Howlett (Tampa, FL/H.B. Plant) was in the six seat, sophomore Aric Charowsky (Townsend, DE/St. Thomas More Prep) sat in the five seat, freshman Jack McCarthy (Long Beach Island, NJ/The Hun School) was in the four seat, freshman Robert Billings (Easton, MD/Easton) sat in the three seat, freshman Anthony Cairo (Port Murray, NJ/Warren Hills) sat in the two seat, and freshman Dominic DiMarino (Wilmington, DE/Concord) was the bow.
Freshman Becca Wozniak (Mount Airy, MD/South Carroll) was the coxswain of the Shoremen's novice four. Freshman Colin Mitchell (Burlingame, CA/Burlingame) sat stroke, freshman Max Villa (Great Meadows, NJ/Pope John XXIII) was in the three seat, freshman Drew Pizzala (Towson, MD/Boys' Latin) was in the two seat, and freshman Patrick Cahill (Fair Hill, MD/Rising Sun) was the bow.
The coxswain of the Shoremen's varsity four was sophomore Jeff Nutting (Catonsville, MD/Mount St. Joseph). Senior Will Herland (Seattle, WA/Lakeside School) sat stroke, Harrison was in the three seat, Zaborskiy was in the two seat, and junior Brian Haluska (Chesterfield, NJ/Notre Dame) was the bow.
The Shoremen return to action next Saturday and Sunday at the Knecht Cup in Cherry Hill, NJ.
