CHESTERTOWN, MD -- New Washington College head men's lacrosse coach Jeff Shirk has completed his coaching staff with the hiring of Andrew Delaney, J.L. Reppert, and Ian Shure as assistant coaches.
"I am so excited about the quality and experience level of this coaching staff," noted Shirk. "J.L., Ian, and Drew are all hardworking, intelligent coaches who are committed to rebuilding this program."
Andrew Delaney is no stranger to the Centennial Conference, having played collegiate lacrosse for fellow conference school Franklin & Marshall College and earning a B.A. in History, Government, and Sociology from F&M in 2003. He most recently served as the assistant coach and defensive coordinator at Division II power Limestone College during the 2008, 2009, and 2010 seasons. Under his guidance, the Saints' defense ranked in the top five nationally in goals-against average in each of those three seasons. While at Limestone, he coached six All-Americans and 18 All-Conference honors and also spent time as the school's assistant sports information director.
Delaney's start in collegiate coaching came at Washington and Lee University, where he served as an assistant coach from 2004-2007, guiding one All-American and eight All-Conference honorees. He played a key role in recruiting at W&L and planned and organized all practices. Prior to his time at W&L, Delaney spent one year as the Assistant Dean of Students for Residential Life and as an assistant coach at Western Reserve Academy in Hudson, OH.
During his playing days at F&M, Delaney was honored with the Diplomat Award for Sportsmanship as a senior. He was a four-year letterwinner for the Diplomats and helped lead them to the 2003 NCAA Division III Quarterfinals.
J.L. Reppert served as an assistant coach at Division I Harvard University during the 2008-09 season and has an extensive background coaching high school lacrosse, most recently serving as the offensive coordinator for St. Albans School in Washington, DC, during the 2010 season. While at Harvard, his responsibilities included developing and maintaining the team's budget, serving as director of operations, managing Crimson Lacrosse Camps, and assisting in the development of the team's offense.
Reppert has held assistant coaching jobs at Episcopal (VA) High School, Gonzaga (DC) High School, Robert Louis Stevenson (CA) High School, and Poway (CA) High School. He has also served as a scout for both Harvard and his alma mater, Navy, as the manager of Champions Field House in Rockville, MD, and as a partner in Breakout Lacrosse Company, based in Washington, DC.
While playing collegiate lacrosse at the United States Naval Academy, Reppert was a four-year starting attackman, was elected as a team captain as a senior, and helped lead his team into the NCAA Division I Tournament. Reppert earned a B.S. in Political Science from Navy in 1999, graduating with honors, and an M.B.A. in Finance from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA, in 2004. He has nine years of experience in the United States Marine Corps and has held a number of positions within the Corps.
A veteran of high school and youth lacrosse coaching, Ian Shure moves into the collegiate coaching ranks at Washington College. His resume includes stops at three Baltimore-area high schools - Owings Mills High School, Sherwood High School, and Boys' Latin School.
Shure served as the assistant head coach and offensive coordinator at Owings Mills during the 2009-10 academic year following a one-year stint as the head offensive coordinator and head junior varsity coach at Sherwood. Prior to that, he spent six seasons as the head offensive coordinator at his alma mater, Boys' Latin, helping guide the Lakers to Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) and National High School Championships in 2006. While at Boys' Latin, he also served as the associate director of the annual fund and as a teaching associate.
Shure is the founder of Shure Shot, LLC, which organizes and trains youth lacrosse players year-round. In 2008, he also served as the director of the youth development program and the director of the U11-U18 tournament teams for Baltimore Elite Lacrosse Club.
A four-year member of the lacrosse team at Division I University of Virginia, Shure earned Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) All-Tournament team honors and ACC Honor Roll recognition in 2000. He earned a B.A. in Psychology from Virginia in 2002.
The Washington College men's lacrosse team has made 30 NCAA and USILA Tournament appearances. The Shoremen, who are 594-329-1 all-time, won the 1998 NCAA Division III National Championship and the 1954 USILA Laurie Cox Division Co-National Championship. Washington College men's lacrosse players have earned All-America honors 226 times. The 2011 season will be the 70th season of varsity men's lacrosse at Washington College.
