Red Devils Pull Away For 81-46 Win Over Shoremen
Brooks Scores 11 Points For WC
CARLISLE, PA – Host Dickinson had four players score in double figures as the host Red Devils downed visiting Washington College, 81-46, at the Kline Center in Centennial Conference men's basketball action on Saturday afternoon. The Red Devils improve to 16-5 overall and 11-3 in the Centennial, while the Shoremen drop to 2-19 and 2-12 respectively.
In the first half, the Red Devils jumped out to an 11-1 lead in the first 3:37 of the contest on two free throws by Gerry Wixted. The Shoremen would cut the lead to four points at 13-9 with 15:06 to go in the opening half on a three-pointer by sophomore guard Sean Brooks (North Wales, PA/North Penn). Dickinson would counter with an 11-0 spurt to take a 24-9 lead with 11:56 remaining in the first half on a Ted Hinnenkamp layup. The closest the Shoremen would come the rest of the half would be 10 points at 37-27 with 3:12 to go in the first on a dunk by senior forward Charlie McShane (West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford). Dickinson led by as many as 17 points at 30-13 with 8:50 to go in the half on two free throws by Wixted. The Red Devils took a 41-27 lead into halftime.
In the second half, after Brooks scored the first five points of the half to cut the Red Devils lead to 41-32 with 17:35 remaining in the game, the Red Devils would outscore the Shoremen 40-14 the rest of the contest to provide the final margin. Dickinson led by as many as 42 with 2:05 left in the contest on a Saar Ziv lay-in at 81-39. The Shoremen scored the last seven points of the ballgame.
Steve Collins scored a game-high 15 points and was one of four Red Devils to score in double figures. Wixted netted 12 points, Hinnenkamp scored 11 points and Vince White scored 10 points. Chris Cox grabbed seven rebounds to lead the team, while Hinnenkamp had three steals to lead all participants. Dickinson shot 61% (30-for-49) from the floor, 30% (3-for-10) from three-point range and 78% (18-for-23) from the foul line. The Red Devils held a 44-30 edge in rebounds and outscored the guests 54-22 in points in the paint and 49-18 off the bench.
Brooks scored 11 points to lead the Shoremen, while freshman forward Dave Knox (Warrington, PA/Central Bucks South) led all players with eight boards. Washington shot 26% from the field (17-for-66), 22% from three-point land (5-for-23) and 54% from the free throw line (7-for-13). The Shoremen turned it over 15 times, while forcing 19 Dickinson turnovers.
The Shoremen are back home on Wednesday night with an 8:00 conference game against visiting Swarthmore.
