Poarch Scores 20 Points in Loss for Shoremen
DOVER, DE -- Host Wesley College improved to 8-4 overall with an 81-73 non-conference men's basketball victory over visiting Washington College this afternoon in Dover, DE.
The Wolverines outscored the Shoremen (0-9), 23-11, over the last 10:30 of the second half to jump out to a 42-30 lead at halftime. Wesley led by at least nine points throughout the second half before Washington sophomore guard John Weston (Tampa, FL/Bolles School) scored at the buzzer to provide the final margin.
David Langan led Wesley with game highs of 21 points, four blocks, and 15 rebounds. He shot 8-for-11 from the field and 5-for-6 from the free-throw line. Paul Reynolds added 16 points ,10 boards and five assists, while Jacquard Hagan scored 14 points and Wayne Lennon finished with 10.
Sophomore guard Stephen Poarch (Middletown, DE/Sanford School) scored 20 points, collected six boards, and handed out four assists for Washington. Senior forward Charlie McShane (West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) added 17 points and seven boards, while Weston tallied 16 points and a game-best four steals. Junior guard Kevin Cunningham (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) scored 11 points for the Shoremen.
Wesley shot 48% from the field an 73% at the line for the game to Washington's 35% and 61%, respectively. The Wolverines also held a 46-36 advantage on the boards, but committed 22 turnovers to the Shoremen's 18.
The Shoremen return to action December 29th at the Randolph-Macon Coaches Classic. Washington will take on the host Yellow Jackets at 3:00 p.m. in the first round.
