Thirteen Fall Student-Athletes Named to Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll
LANCASTER, PA -- Thirteen Washington College student-athletes have been named to the Centennial Conference's Academic Honor Roll for fall sports. To be named to the Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must be a sophomore, junior or senior; a starter or key reserve on his or her team; and carry at least a 3.40 cumulative grade-point average. A key reserve is defined as a reserve who appeared in at least 50% of his or her team's contests.
Six of Washington's 13 Academic Honor Roll qualifiers were from the women's soccer team. Senior Becca Nicely (Baltimore, MD/Institute of Notre Dame), a Biology major made the Academic Honor Roll for the third year in a row. Senior Katie Weida (Lancaster, PA/Lancaster Country Day), an English major, and juniors Kelsey Newborn (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central), a Political Science major, and Kira Pancotti (Briarcliff Manor, NY/Briarcliff), a History major, each earned the distinction for the second time. Sophomore forward Sophia Gassman (Annapolis, MD/Annapolis), a Business Management major, and sophomore defender Gabby Antalffy (Baltimore, MD/Sparrows Point), who has yet to declare a major, each earned the honor in their first year of eligibility.
The field hockey team had three student-athletes qualify for the Academic Honor Roll. Junior Biology majors Emily Broomell (East Petersburg, PA/Lancaster Christian) and Brittany Palasik (Severna Park, MD/Archbishop Spalding) each landed on the list for the second year in a row. Sophomore Gabby Tarbert (Bel Air, MD/C. Milton Wright), a Political Science and History double major, earned a spot in her first year of eligibility.
The men's soccer and volleyball teams each had two student-athletes on the Academic Honor Roll. Sophomores Tim Marcin (Wilmington, DE/Concord), who has not yet declared a major, and Matt Sedney (Ridgefield, CT/Ridgefield), an International Studies major, represented the men's soccer team in their first year of eligibility. Junior Biology major Alyssa Forget (River Vale, NJ/Pascack Valley), a two-time member of the Academic Honor Roll, and sophomore Environmental Studies major Jenny Lee (Wilmington, DE/Mount Pleasant) represented the volleyball team.
