Field Hockey Names Five Captains for 2010
CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College field hockey team has announced its five captains for the 2010 season: senior attack Danielle Rosato (Narvon, PA/Pequea Valley), senior defender Sara Rutkowski (Wernersville, PA/Conrad Weiser), junior defender Emily Broomell (East Petersburg, PA/Lancaster Christian), junior midfielder Gussie Reilly (Buck Hill Falls, PA/Mercersburg Academy), and junior attack Emily Trees (Kensington, MD/Connelly School of the Holy Child).
Rosato, who earned a spot on the 2009 National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) National Academic Squad, scored seven goals and assisted on two others while making 16 starts in 17 games last season. She enters the 2010 season fifth all-time at Washington College in career goals (24) and tied for sixth in career points (54).
Rutkowski is coming off a two-assist, two-defensive save season during which she started every game and is tied for fifth all-time in career assists (12). She was named her team's Most Improved Player as a sophomore in 2008 after leading the team with eight assists.
Broomell made one defensive save while making 10 starts in 16 games a year ago. She earned a spot on the 2009 Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll and the 2008 and 2009 NFHCA National Academic Squads.
Reilly notched two goals and two assists in 2009. She was one of seven players, along with Rutkowski, to start all 17 games.
Trees emerged as an offensive threat off the bench last year, scoring three goals and recording a team-leading five assists in 16 reserve appearances en route to Team Most Improved Player honors.
The Washington College field hockey team opens its 2010 season this Sunday with a 3:30 p.m. game at Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, MA.
