TUCSON, Ariz. – Washington College senior Matt Tancredi (Wall, N.J./Wall) and sophomore Ryan Zwier (Newark, Del./Christ School [N.C.]) were named to the 2018 NCAA Division III Players to Watch List by the Collegiate Baseball News. Tancredi was selected as an outfielder while Zwier was picked as a designated hitter. The selections were done by Division III baseball coaches.
Tancredi had a strong junior season where he hit a career-high .315, ranking third on the team, with nine doubles, good for second on the squad, and 13 RBI in 33 games last spring. He was also third on the Shoremen in on-base percentage (.415), hits (34) and walks (14). His 34 hits were a career-best in 2017. In 76 career games, 70 starts, he is hitting .285 with 31 RBI, 41 runs scored and 70 hits.
Zwier led the team in slugging as a freshman last season at .548 and was second on the Shoremen in batting (.315) and home runs (3). He plated 11 runners and came around to score 13 times in 23 contests in 2017. 10 of his 23 hits were of the extra base hit variety as in addition to his three homers, he had six doubles and one triple.
The Shoremen Nine open their 2018 slate on February 24 against Lancaster Bible in a doubleheader beginning at noon.
