CHESTERTOWN, Md. — Junior Luke D'Ostilio (Hamden, Conn./Hamden) and seniors Joe Lozupone (Olney, Md./Good Counsel), P.J. Mikulus (Plainview, N.Y./Chaminade), Nick Popolizio (Collegeville, Pa./Germantown Academy), and Matt Tancredi (Wall, N.J./Wall) have been voted captains of the Washington College baseball team for the 2018 season.
D'Ostilio, a second baseman, has played in 73 career games for the Shoremen and has a career batting average of .275. Last season, he led the team in walks (23), on-base percentage (.420), runs (28), and triples (2). He is a former Shoreman of the Week.
Lozupone, a shortstop, has played in 103 career games for the Shoremen. He is a career .263 hitter with 99 hits, 35 RBI, 43 runs, and 15 stolen bases to his credit over his first three seasons. He is also a two-time qualifier for the Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll.
Mikulus, a pitcher, is 7-4 in 21 career appearances on the mound, 19 of them starts. He has a career ERA of 3.36 and has struck out 92 batters in 112.2 innings. He is a two-time Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll qualifier.
Popolizio, a pitcher, is 2-5 in 22 career appearances, including six starts. His 1.97 ERA in 2016 was the best among all Shoremen pitchers with 20 or more innings pitched, earning him Team Co-Most Improved Player honors.
Tancredi, an outfielder, was the team's other Co-Most Improved Player in 2016. He has played in 76 career games, hitting .285. He has 70 career hits, 31 career RBI, and 41 career runs scored to his credit.
The Washington College baseball team will open its 2018 season, the first under head coach Cory Beddick, with a home double-header against Lancaster Bible on February 24th.
