Husson Gets Walk-Off Win Over Shoremen, 8-7
Marinelli, Remington Have Three Hits Each in Loss
LAKE WALES, FL -- Colin Ciomei hit a walk-off pinch-hit RBI single in the bottom of the ninth to give the Husson University baseball team an 8-7 victory over Washington College today at the RussMatt Central Florida Baseball Invitational in Lake Wales, FL.
Washington scores three runs in the top of the first to take an early lead, but Husson scored a run in each of the first two innings and two in the third to pull ahead, 4-3. The Shoremen evened the score in the top of the sixth on an RBI double by freshman Nick Marinelli (Ellicott City, MD/Marriotts Ridge), but back-to-back RBI doubles by Ethan Guerette and Shawn Smith in the bottom of the inning put the Eeagles in front, 6-4. Husson tacked on its seventh run in the bottom of the seventh on a single by Kyle Vanidestine.
Washington trimmed the lead to 7-5 on an RBI single by Marinelli in the eighth. In the top of the ninth, the Shoremen mounted a two-out rally to tie the score at 7-7 as freshman Tom Fiala (New Hope, PA/New Hope-Solebury) and Ian Remington (Guilford, CT/Guilford) hit back-to-back RBI singles. Ciomei's game-winning single in the bottom of the frame played Jake Arthers to win the game for Husson.
Guerette finished the game 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored for Husson, while Vanidestine was 3-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI. Smith, Arthers, and Tom Crews had two hits each.
Marinelli was 3-for-6 with two RBI for Washington, while Remington was 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored. Sophomore Tyler Cotterell (Lincroft, NJ/Middletown South) was 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored for the Shoremen.
The Shoremen (6-5) continue play at the RussMatt Central Florida Baseball Invitational tomorrow when they take on Lawrence at 9:30 a.m. in Auburndale.
