2009 KINGS POINT, NY -- The 18th-ranked Washington College sailing team finished 12th of 20 schools at the Kings Point Dinghy Open hosted by Merchant Marine this weekend. A ninth-place finish in B Division by freshman skipper Sam Bedinger (Richmond, VA/St. Christopher's) and sophomore crew Mildred Conroy (Newton, MA/Tabor Academy) led WC's effort. Bedinger and Conroy's best single-race finish came in the sixth B Division race as they finished fourth. Freshman skipper Amanda Anastasia (Boston, MA/Boston Latin School) and freshman crew Emily Fetherston (Exeter, RI/Lincoln School) finished 14th in A Division. Merchant Marine entered two squads in the regatta and they finished first and third, respectively. Tenth-ranked Hobart/William Smith was third. Saturday's winds began the day at 15-20 knots out of the South and built to over 20 knots by noon. Eight races sailed in each division on Saturday; the remaining eight races in each division sailed on Sunday. Next weekend, the Washington College sailing team will compete at the War Memorial, the MAISA Fall Co-Ed Championships, hosted by St. Mary's, and at the Top Nine Invitational, hosted by Navy. |
