Washington Competes at Three Regattas
WC Third at MAISA Open, Fifth at Intrepid Trophy, Ninth at Thompson Trophy

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College sailing team competed at three regattas this weekend. Washington finished third of 14 schools at the MAISA Spring Open, hosted by New York Maritime, fifth of 12 schools at the Intrepid Trophy, hosted by Navy, and ninth of 18 schools at the Thompson Trophy, hosted by Coast Guard.

At the MAISA Spring Open, junior skipper Nicholas Larmore (Wilmette, IL/New Trier) and sophomore crew John MacLellan (Catonsville, MD/Catonsville) were fourth in A Division, while sophomore skipper Patrick Clancy (Scituate, MA/Boston College HS) and senior crew Tonie Domino (Crownsville, MD/Old Mill) finished fourth in B Division.

Fourth-ranked Georgetown won the MAISA Spring Open, followed by 10th-ranked Hobart/William Smith in second. Saturday's races began in a light northerly from 4-8 knots which built throughout the day to around 8-13 knots. Sunday's races were sailed in a northerly of 8-10 knots.

Washington posted an 8-3 won-loss record at the Intrepid Trophy, finishing one race behind the four teams that held the top four spots with 9-2 records. Senior Chase Hillyer (Summit, NJ/Morristown-Beard), senior Meredith Dodd (Pittsburgh, PA/Upper St. Clair), junior Derek Packard (Excelsior, MN/Breck), and sophomore crew Genevieve Smith (Hampstead, MD/North Carroll) sailed for Washington at the Intrepid Trophy.

Tie-breakers decided the top four spots at the Intrepid Trophy as Maine Maritime finished first, New York Maritime was second, Merchant Marine was third, and Navy was fourth.

At the Thompson Trophy, sophomore skipper Conner Blouin (Tampa, FL/Jesuit) and sophomore crew Krista Hankins (Bridgeton, NJ/Cumberland Regional) were 14th in A Division, while senior skipper Alex Hood (Newport, RI/Portsmouth Abbey) and senior crew Shrijana Puri (Bethesda, MD/Bethesda-Chevy Chase) were seventh in B Division.

Third-ranked Boston College won the Thompson Trophy, fourth-ranked Georgetown was second, and 11th-ranked Harvard was third. Saturday's races sailed in a steady southerly at about 10 knots. Sunday's races sailed in a southeasterly breeze of 10-15 knots.

Next weekend, the Washington College sailing team will compete at an ICSA Co-Ed Dinghy National Championship Semifinal hosted by Hobart/William Smith.
