Washington 3rd at Arrigan Memorial
WC Also Competes at Captain Prosser Trophy

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College sailing team finished third of 17 schools at the Arrigan Memorial, hosted by Georgetown and fifth of eight schools at the Captain Prosser Trophy, the MAISA Team Race Championships, hosted by Merchant Marine, this weekend.

At the Arrigan Memorial, junior skipper Nicholas Larmore (Wilmette, IL/New Trier) and sophomore crew Genevieve Smith (Hampstead, MD/North Carroll) finished fourth in A Division, while sophomore skipper Patrick Clancy (Scituate, MA/Boston College HS) and sophomore crew John MacLellan (Catonsville, MD/Catonsville) were second in B Division. Larmore and Smith finished in the top three in six of the 14 A Division races and won three of them, including the final two. Clancy and MacLellan finished in the top six in all 14 B Division races, winning three.

Seventeenth-ranked Navy won the Arrigan Memorial, while Old Dominion was second. Eight A Division races and six B Division races were sailed in a northwest wind of 10-15 knots which died at the end of the day. The remaining races were sailed on Sunday.

Washington finished the Prosser Trophy with a 5-9 race record. Senior skipper Alex Hood (Newport, RI/Portsmouth Abbey) and senior crew Shrijana Puri (Bethesda, MD/Bethesda-Chevy Chase), sophomore skipper Conner Blouin (Tampa, FL/Jesuit) and sophomore crew Krista Hankins (Bridgeton, NJ/Cumberland Regional), and junior skipper Derek Packard (Excelsior, MN/Breck) and junior crew Seth Olson (Branford, CT/Branford) sailed for Washington at the Prosser Trophy. Senior Meredith Dodd (Pittsburgh, PA/Upper St. Clair), senior Chase Hillyer (Summit, NJ/Morristown-Beard), and freshman Caroline Hill (Tiverton, RI/Bishop Stang, MA) were the team's spares.

Top-ranked St. Mary's (15-2), fourth-ranked Georgetown (13-4), and 17th-ranked Navy (11-6) were the top three finishers at the Prosser Trophy and qualified for the ICSA North American Team Race Championships. Saturday's races were sailed in a northwesterly wind of 5-15 knots which calmed over the last three races before shutting off. Sunday's races were sailed in an east-northeast breeze of 10-15 knots.

Next weekend, the Washington College sailing team will compete at the America Trophy, the MAISA Spring Co-Ed Dinghy Championships.
