August 29,
2008 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Washington College head sailing coach Geoff Becker will compete as part of a three-man team at the 2008 U.S. Match Racing Championship for the Prince of Wales Bowl. The regatta will be held September 24th-28th at the Seawanhaka Corinthian Yacht Club in Oyster Bay, NY. Becker, along with Hobart/William Smith head coach Scott Ikle and 2004 Hobart William/Smith graduate Jeff Sullivan, finished second at the Area ABC Semifinal Championship held in Annapolis last month to qualify for the U.S. Match Racing Championship. The trio will face a challenging field of competitors at the national championship regatta, including several former America's Cup skippers. Becker is currently ranked 261st in the world in match racing by the International Sailing Federation and should move up significantly following nationals. An accomplished competitive sailor, Becker skippered the winning team at the 2007 Lightning Class North American Championships. |
