WC Competes at Truncated Admiral Moore
Regatta Not Completed Due to Weather

BRONX, NY -- The Washington College sailing team competed at an incomplete Admiral Moore Team Race, an intersectional regatta hosted by New York Maritime, this weekend. Deteriorating conditions on Sunday forced the cancellation of the remaining portion of the regatta and prevented a full round robin from being sailed. As a results, no final standings are counted and the regatta's trophy was not awarded.

Sixty-knot winds Saturday night resulted in exceptionally low tides on the East River Sunday morning. After the tide raised, three races sailed in 15-25 knot winds from the northwest before the winds increased in the 20-plus knot range and racing was called off due to wind and cold.

The first 22 races on Saturday were sailed in a steady northeasterly of 6-10 knots. After postponements due to fog and a 30-knot squall, Saturday's remaining 13 races were sailed in 20-30 knot winds.

Washington went 3-3 in the six races the WC sailors competed in. Senior skipper Alex Hood (Newport, RI/Portsmouth Abbey) and senior crew Shrijana Puri (Bethesda, MD/Bethesda-Chevy Chase), sophomore skipper Conner Blouin (Tampa, FL/Jesuit) and sophomore crew Krista Hankins (Bridgeton, NJ/Cumberland Regional), and junior skipper Derek Packard (Excelsior, MN/Breck) and junior crew Seth Olson (Branford, CT/Branford) sailed for Washington. Sophomore Patrick Clancy (Scituate, MA/Boston College HS) was the team's spare.

Next weekend, the Washington College sailing team will host the Team Race Challenge on the Chester River.
