WC 7th at SMC Team Race, 10th at Admiral Moore

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College sailing team competed at two intersectional regattas this weekend, finishing seventh of 10 teams at the St. Mary's Team Race Intersectional and 10th of 15 teams at the Admiral Moore, hosted by New York Maritime.

Washington posted a 5-13 won-loss record at the St. Mary's Team Intersectional to for seventh place. Junior skipper Alex Hood (Newport, RI/Portsmouth Abbey) and junior crew Shrijana Puri (Bethesda, MD/Bethesda-Chevy Chase), junior skipper Parker Mitchell (Malibu, CA/Malibu) and sophomore crew Derek Packard (Excelsior, MN/Breck), and freshman skipper Conner Blouin (Tampa, FL/Jesuit) and junior crew Meredith Bluefeld (King of Prussia, PA/Upper Merion) sailed for Washington at the St. Mary's Team Race Intersectional.

Fourteenth-ranked Yale won the St. Mary's Team race with an 18-3 record, while eighth-ranked Hobart/William Smith was second at 17-4 and second-ranked St. Mary's was third at 17-4. Seventy-one races were sailed on Saturday in southerly breezes of 4-8 knots that shifted to the East at 8-14 knots throughout the day. The double round robin and championship final four were completed Sunday in northwesterly breezes that averaged 8-10 knots.

At the Admiral Moore, WC sophomore skipper Nicholas Larmore (Wilmette, IL/New Trier) sailed with freshman crews Genevieve Smith (Hampstead, MD/North Carroll) and Guy Tawney (Baltimore, MD/St. Paul's School) to place 11th in A Division, while freshman skipper Patrick Clancy (Scituate, MA/Boston College HS) and junior crew Meredith Dodd (Pittsburgh, PA/Upper St. Clair) were 10th in B Division.

Twelfth-ranked Brown won the Admiral Moore, followed by 16th-ranked Rhode Island in second and Tufts in third. Six races were sailed on Saturday in a 2-5 knot northerly before the breeze died around 2:00 p.m.. A 12-15 knot breeze filled in later in the afternoon as eight more races were sailed on Saturday. Sunday's day of 16 races began in a six-knot westerly before winds clocked to the north and built to 6-12 knots.

Next weekend, the Washington College sailing team will compete at the Truxtun Umsted, hosted by Navy, and the St. Mary's Women's Intersectional.
