2007 BRONX, NY -- The Washington College sailing team won the six-team Team Race Challenge to qualify for the last spot at the Captain Prosser Trophy, the MAISA Team Race Championships, which will be held April 8th and 9th. The Team Race Challenge, which was hosted by New York Maritime, was completed in one day as two full round robins and a consolation and championship round were all sailed on Saturday. Washington posted a 12-1 record to win the regatta. Fourth-ranked Hobart/William Smith (10-3), 17th-ranked New York Maritime (8-5), and Fordham (4-9) joined WC in the championship round. RPI (2-9) and Maryland (1-10) sailed in the consolation round and finished fifth and sixth, respectively. The regatta was sailed under sunny skies in 5-8 knots of wind and 1-2 knots of current. Junior skipper Alex Hood (Newport, RI/Portsmouth Abbey) and junior crew Shrijana Puri (Bethesda, MD/Bethesda-Chevy Chase), freshman skipper Conner Blouin (Tampa, FL/Jesuit) and freshman crew Krista Hankins (Bridgeton, NJ/Cumberland Regional), and senior skipper Parker Mitchell (Malibu, CA/Malibu) and sophomore crew Derek Packard (Excelsior, MN/Breck) sailed for Washington. Next weekend, the Washington College sailing team will compete at two regattas - the Southern New England Team Race hosted by Coast Guard and Connecticut College and the OCC Spring Open, hosted by Ocean County. |
