Washington 3rd at H/WS Fall Open
Dodd & Starks Compete at MAISA Women's Singles

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College sailing team finished third of 17 teams at the Hobart/William Smith Fall Open this weekend. Two Washington College sailors also competed at the Faye Bennet Trophy, the MAISA Women's Singles Championships, hosted by Navy this weekend.

At the Hobart/William Smith Fall Open, freshman skipper Patrick Clancy (Scituate, MA/Boston College HS) and junior crew Tonie Domino (Crownsville, MD/Old Mill) led the way for Washington with a first-place finish in B Division. Clancy and Domino finished in the top three in seven of the division's 11 races, including three first-place finishes. The overall first-place finish in B Division was Clancy's second consecutive divisional win; he finished first in A Division at last week's MAISA Clinic Regatta. Sophomore skipper Nick Larmore (Wilmette, IL/New Trier) and sophomore crew Derek Packard (Excelsior, MN/Breck) finished fourth in A Division. Larmore and Packard placed in the top five in seven of the 11 A Division races.

Second-ranked host Hobart/William Smith won the H/WS Fall Open, while sixth-ranked Georgetown was third. Saturday's races were sailed in winds from the south at 15-20 knots. Sailing was stopped at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday due to the conditions. Sunday's races were sailed in 5-10 knots

At the Faye Bennet Trophy, junior Meredith Dodd (Pittsburgh, PA/Upper St. Clair) finished 21st of 28 sailors and junior Alexandria Starks (Toms River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan) finished 26th.

Merchant Marine's Allison Davis won the Faye Bennet Trophy. The top five finishers qualified for next month's ICSA National Women's Singles Championships. Saturday's racing started in 5-8 knot winds from the south and finished with 3-5 knots of breeze from the southwest in the afternoon. Sunday began with a wind delay. Morning races were sailed in 3-7 knot winds from the West shifting to Northwest by late morning.The afternoon's races were sailed in 5-10 knot winds from the northwest.

Next weekend, the WC sailors will compete at the Hobart/William Smith Fall Intersectional and at the Tom Curtis Memorial regatta, hosted by Georgetown.
