9, 2006 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College sailing team finished third of seven teams in the Washington College Women's Open this weekend. Washington also finished eighth of eight teams at the Prosser Trophy, the MAISA Team Race Championships, at Navy this weekend. At the Washington College Women's Open, sophomore skipper Meredith Dodd (Pittsburgh, PA/Upper St. Clair) and sophomore crew Tonie Domino (Crownsville, MD/Old Mill) finished second for Washington in A Division. Sophomore skipper Meredith Bluefeld (King of Prussia, PA/Upper Merion) and freshman crew Jenn Tonks (Cumberland, ME/Greely) were third in B Division. Fifth-ranked Navy won the Washington College Women's Open, while 13th-ranked Old Dominion was second. Racing was held on Saturday only as a full round robin was completed. Wind was from the north at 8-15 knots with a light rain all day. Senior Carl Horrocks (Point Pleasant, NJ/Point Pleasant Boro), sophomore Alex Hood (Newport, RI/Portsmouth Abbey), freshman Nick Larmore (Wilmette, IL/New Trier), sophomore Shri Puri (Bethesda, MD/Bethesda-Chevy Chase), freshman Derek Packard (Excelsior, MN/Breck), sophomore Alexandria Starks (Toms River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan), and freshman Seth Olson (Branford, CT/Branford) represented WC at the Prosser Trophy. Second-ranked Hobart/William Smith won the Prosser Trophy, followed by sixth-ranked St. Mary's (MD) in second and top-ranked Georgetown in third. All three of those teams qualified for the ICSA National Team Race Championships. Saturday's races were sailed in winds of 15-20 knots from the north with rain and cold temperatures all day. Sunday's conditions saw 7-12 knot wind from the north and slightly warmer temperatures. Washington will compete at the Admiral's Cup, hosted by Kings Point, and at the Arrigan Memorial, hosted by Georgetown, next weekend. |
