12, 2006 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College sailing team finished 16th of 18 teams at the Admiral Moore Trophy regatta, hosted by New York Maritime, and 10th of 10 teams at the St. Mary's Team Race Intersectional this weekend. Freshman skipper Nick Larmore (Wilmette, IL/New Trier) and sophomore crew Alexandria Starks (Toms River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan) finished 12th in A Division at the Admiral Moore. Sophomore skipper Chase Hillyer (Summit, NJ/Morristown-Beard) and sophomore crew Meredith Bluefeld (King of Prussia, PA/Upper Merion) finished 18th in B Division. Twelfth-ranked Tufts won the Admiral Moore, followed by fourth-ranked St. Mary's in second and eighth-ranked South Florida in third. Saturday races were held in light winds from the west at five knots. Sunday's winds were from the south at 0-5 knots. A total of six races were sailed in each division during the regatta. Senior skipper Carl Horrocks (Point Pleasant, NJ/Point Pleasant Boro) and freshman crew Derek Packard (Excelsior, MN/Breck), sophomore skipper Alex Hood (Newport, RI/Portsmouth Abbey) and freshman crew Colleen Kelly (Brick, NJ/Monsignor Donovan), sophomore skipper Parker Mitchell (Malibu, CA/Malibu) and sophomore crew Shri Puri (Bethesda, MD/Bethesda-Chevy Chase), and sophomore Meredith Dodd (Pittsburgh, PA/Upper St. Clair) represented Washington at the St. Mary's Team Race Intersectional. Washington posted a 1-8 record at the regatta. Fifteenth-ranked Hobart William Smith won
the St. Mary's Team Race, while sixth-ranked Georgetown was second and
fifth-ranked Boston College was third. Saturday's races started with
a light five knot breeze from the north-northeast, which died and clocked
around to the south and then clocked again to the east. Conditions were
mixed with an eight-knot southerly that died to a 3-5 knot easterly.
Sunday's races sailed the whole day in a southerly which was up and
down in velocity - as much as eight knots and as little as zero knots. Next weekend, Washington will compete at the Truxtun Umsted, hosted by Navy, and at the UMBC Open. |
