26, 2006 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College sailing team won the Washington College Team Race regatta for the second consecutive year this weekend on the Chester River. The regatta was limited to Saturday racing as Sunday's extremely low tides prevented any sailing today. Washington won the regatta with a 6-1 record. Fourth-ranked Georgetown was second with a 5-2 mark, while New York Maritime was third with a 4-3 record. Senior skipper Carl Horrocks (Point Pleasant, NJ/Point Pleasant Boro) and freshman crew Derek Packard (Excelsior, MN/Breck), freshman skipper Nick Larmore (Wilmette, IL/New Trier) and sophomore crew Alexandria Starks (Toms River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan), and sophomore skipper Parker Mitchell (Malibu, CA/Malibu), sophomore crew Shri Puri (Bethesda, MD/Bethesda-Chevy Chase), and freshman crew Colleen Kelly (Brick, NJ/Monsignor Donovan) represented Washington in the regatta. Forty races were sailed on Saturday, mostly
in a strong 12-18 knot southwest breeze which died late in the day to
4-6 knots for the last six races. One round robin was completed with
12 races sailed in the second round robin. Since the The 2005 and 2006 Washington College Team
Races are the first two team race regattas Washington has ever won. Next weekend, the WC sailing team will compete at the John Jackson Memorial Team Race at Georgetown. Team Records |
