Washington 6th at MAISA Women's
WAC Also 9th at Thompson; 2nd at Delaware

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College sailing team finished sixth of 14 teams at the MAISA Spring Women's Championships, hosted by Georgetown, ninth of 18 teams at the Thompson Trophy, hosted by Connecticut College, and second of six teams at the Delaware Spring Open this weekend.

At the MAISA Spring Women's Championships, sophomore skipper Vanessa Anderson (Narragansett, RI/The Prout School) and freshman crew Tonie Domino (Crownsville, MD/Old Mill) were eighth in A Division, while freshman skipper Meredith Dodd (Pittsburgh, PA/Upper St. Clair) and freshman crew Meredith Bluefeld (King of Prussia, PA/Upper Merion) sailed to a seventh-place finish in B Division.

Tenth-ranked St. Mary's (MD) won the MAISA Spring Women's Championships, followed by seventh-ranked Navy in second and eighth-ranked Georgetown in third. Six races were sailed in each division in a 10-15 mile per hour win out of the south. Racing was stopped at 4:45 p.m. due to an approaching thunderstorm. Five races sailed in each division on Sunday in a west-southwest wind of 5-15 mph.

At the Thompson Trophy, senior Colin Robertson (Annapolis, MD/St. Mary's), freshman Alex Hood (Newport, RI/Portsmouth Abbey), and freshman Nicole Luckett (Centreville, MD/Chestertown Christian Academy) finished fifth in B Division. Robertson skippered in the first eight and final seven of the 17 B Division races, while Hood was Washington's skipper in the ninth and 10th races. Luckett was Washington's B Division crew in the first 14 races, while Hood served as crew for the final three races. Junior skipper Carl Horrocks (Point Pleasant, NJ/Point Pleasant Boro) and freshman crew Alexandria Starks (Toms River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan) were 10th in A Division.

Fifth-ranked USC won the Thompson Trophy, followed by top-ranked Yale in second and third-ranked Hobart/William Smith in third. Ten races were sailed in each division in 6-14 knots of wind on Saturday. Seven races in each division were sailed in a stronger breeze on Sunday.

At the Delaware Spring Open, junior skipper Tyler Raven (Annapolis, MD/Gunston Day School) and freshman crew Hanna Lee (Annapolis, MD/Annapolis) finished second in A Division, while sophomore Matt Lyman (Salem, OR/South Salem) and freshman crew OIiver Barnyak (Washington, PA/The Linsly School, WV) were third in B Division.

Navy won the Delaware Spring Open, followed by Washington in second and Delaware in third. Saturday saw winds of 10-15 mph. On Sunday, the winds kicked up to 14-17 mph, resulting in one capsize.

The Washington College sailing team will compete at the America Trophy, the MAISA Spring Co-Ed Dinghy Championships, next weekend at Navy.
