22, 2005 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College sailing team competed at three regattas Saturday and Sunday. WAC finished 15th at Navy's Truxtun Umsted, third at the UMBC Spring Open, and 17th at the St. Mary's Women's Intersectional. Senior Chad Hillyer (Summit, NJ/Morristown-Beard) turned in Washington's highest finish at the Truxtun Umsted, placing 11th in D Division. Junior skipper Carl Horrocks (Point Pleasant, NJ/Point Pleasant Boro) and freshman crew Alexandria Starks (Toms River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan) finished 14th in A Division, while senior skipper Colin Robertson (Annapolis, MD/St. Mary's) and freshman crew Nicole Luckett (Centreville, MD/Chestertown Christian Academy) were 13th in B Division. Freshman Parker Mitchell (Malibu, CA/Malibu) added a 15th-place finish in C Division. Only two races in each division were completed at the Truxtun Umsted Saturday due to a lack of wind. Sunday brought a 3-6 knot wind from the southeast throughout the day and eight races were completed in each division. Tenth-ranked Harvard won the Truxtun Umsted, followed by 20th-ranked Navy in second and ninth-ranked St. Mary's in third. At the UMBC Spring Open, freshman skipper Alex Hood (Newport, RI/Portsmouth Abbey) and freshman crew Hanna Lee (Annapolis, MD/Annapolis) led Washington with a second-place finish in A Division. Freshman skipper Chase Hillyer (Summit, NJ/Morristown-Beard) and freshman crew Rory Carlin were sixth in B Division. At the St. Mary's Women's Intersectional, sophomore skipper Vanessa Anderson (Narragansett, RI/The Prout School) and freshman crew Tonie Domino (Crownsville, MD/Old Mill) finished 17th in A Division, while freshman skipper Meredith Dodd (Pittsburgh, PA/Upper St. Clair) and freshman crew Meredith Bluefeld (King of Prussia, PA/Upper Merion) 16th in B Division. Second-ranked Charleston won the St. Mary's Women's Intersectional, followed by third-ranked Yale in second and 12th-ranked Connecticut College in third. The Washington College sailing team will return to competition April 2nd and 3rd at the Boston Dinghy Cup, hosted by Harvard and M.I.T., and at the Ocean County Spring Open. |
