27, 2005 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The host Washington College sailing team won a team race regatta for the first time in school history this weekend by finishing in first place in the MAISA Team Race held yesterday and today on the Chester River. Thirty-nine races were sailed on Saturday in 6-12 knot winds from the west shifting northwest. One full round robin was completed and 11 races were sailed in the second round robin. Washington was in first place at the end of the day with a 9-1 record. Seven races were sailed Sunday, including
one resail of a race from Saturday, in a 4-10 knot northeast breeze
breeze which died out completely by 11:30 a.m. Races were postponed
and ultimately canceled for the day. Since the second round robin was
not completed, the teams saw their records revert to the end of round
one. Washington went 6-1 in the first round robin and, therefore, claimed
the regatta title. Georgetown and Maryland each finished 5-2 in the
first round robin. Complete final standings appear at the end of this
release. Sailing for Washington College in the event were: senior skipper Colin Robertson (Annapolis, MD/St. Mary's) and freshman crew Nicole Luckett (Centreville, MD/Chestertown Christian Academy), junior skipper Carl Horrocks (Point Pleasant, NJ/Point Pleasant Boro) and freshman crew Alexandria Starks (Toms River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan), senior skipper Chad Hillyer (Summit, NJ/Morristown-Beard) and sophomore crew Vanessa Anderson (Narragansett, RI/The Prout School), and freshman skipper Parker Mitchell (Malibu, CA/Malibu) and freshman crew Hanna Lee (Annapolis, MD/Annapolis). Next weekend, Washington will compete at the Old Dominion Spring Open and at the John Jackson Memorial Team Race, hosted by Georgetown. Final Standings: |
