#17 WAC Finishes 5th at America Trophy
Finish Equals Program's Best-Ever

ANNAPOLIS, MD -- The 17th-ranked Washington College sailing team finished fifth of 18 teams at the America Trophy, the MAISA Spring Dinghy Championships, this weekend at the Naval Academy. Washington's fifth-place finish equals its best-ever finish at the America Trophy.

Senior skipper Colin Robertson (Annapolis, MD/St. Mary's) and freshman crew Nicole Luckett (Centreville, MD/Chestertown Christian Academy) were third in B Division. Robertson and Luckett won one B Division race and finished in the top five in nine of the Division's 18 races. Junior skipper Carl Horrocks (Point Pleasant, NJ/Point Pleasant Boro) and freshman crew Alexandria Starks (Toms River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan) finished seventh in A Division.

Washington was in seventh-place after day one of the regatta, but outscored 18th-ranked host Navy by 11 points on Sunday to narrowly beat out the Midshipmen for fifth place. Washington finished with 222 points, while Navy finished with 224. Third-ranked Hobart/William Smith won the regatta with 139 points, eighth-ranked St. Mary's (MD) was second with 151, while 15th-ranked Old Dominion was fourth with 189 and 10th-ranked Georgetown was fifth with 191.

Saturday's races were sailed in an 8-10 knot wind from the south, while Sunday's races were sailed in a 10-15 knot wind from the northwest. Eighteen races were completed in each division.

Washington's previous fifth-place finish at the America Trophy came in 2003.
