11, 2004 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The 17th-ranked Washington College sailing team finished fifth of 16 schools at this weekend's Hobart/William Smith Fall Intersectional. Washington also placed 16th of 20 schools at the Navy Women's Fall Intersectional and junior Carl Horrocks (Point Pleasant, NJ/Point Pleasant Boro) placed 10th of 16 sailors at the MAISA Men's Singlehanded Championships at Navy. At the Hobart/William Smith Fall Intersectional, senior skipper Chad Hillyer (Summit, NJ/Morristown-Beard) and freshman crew Alexandria Starks (Toms River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan) led Washington with a fourth-place finish in B Division. Hillyer and Starks finished first in two B Division races and finished in the top nine in every B Division race. Senior skipper Colin Robertson (Annapolis, MD/St. Mary's) and freshman crew Hanna Lee (Annapolis, MD/Annapolis) placed eighth in A Division after finishing as high as second in one A Division race. Eighteenth-ranked Charleston won the Hobart/William Smith Fall Intersectional, followed by seventh-ranked Hobart/William Smith in second and second-ranked St. Mary's (MD) in third. Saturday's races featured a south to southwest breeze of 8-14 knots, while Sunday saw a north-northwest breeze of 8-14 knots. Fifteen races were sailed in each division. At the MAISA Men's Singlehanded Championships, Horrocks improved one spot on his 11th-place finish at last year's regatta. Horrocks finished in the top five in three of the event's 16 races. Saturday's races were held in light winds from the southeast, while Sunday featured a medium breeze from the northwest. At the Navy Women's Fall Intersectional, sophomore skipper Vanessa Anderson (Narragansett, RI/The Prout School) and freshman crew Tonie Domino (Crownsville, MD/Old Mill) placed 17th in A Division, while freshman skipper Meredith Dodd (Pittsburgh, PA/Upper St. Clair) and freshman crew Meredith Bluefeld (King of Prussia, PA/Upper Merion) were 15th in B Division. Third-ranked Brown won the Navy Women's Fall, followed by seventh-ranked Charleston in second and second-ranked Yale in third. Saturday's races were sailed in a light southeast breeze of 4-6 knots, while Sunday's winds were from the northwest at 5-15 knots. Twenty races were sailed in each division. Next weekend, the Washington College sailing team will host the WC Open and will compete at the Navy Fall Intersectional. |
