15, 2004 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Members of the Washington College sailing team competed in two regattas this weekend. Washington finished 16th of 18 schools at the Atlantic Coast Dinghy Championship, hosted by M.I.T., and 17th of 17 teams at the Atlantic Coast Women's Championship, hosted by Charleston. At the Atlantic Coast Dinghy Championship, junior skipper Carl Horrocks (Point Pleasant, NJ/Point Pleasant Boro) and freshman crew Alexandria Starks (Toms River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan) finished 13th in A Division, while senior skipper Colin Robertson (Annapolis, MD/St. Mary's) and freshman crew Nicole Luckett (Centreville, MD/Chestertown Christian Academy) were 17th in B Division. Fourth-ranked Brown won the Atlantic Coast Dinghy Championship, followed by ninth-ranked Harvard in second and third-ranked Yale in third. Saturday's races were sailed in a moderate north wind lightening to barely a breeze by the end of the day. Sunday brought moderate north-northwest breezes of five to 10 miles per hour. Sophomore skipper Vanessa Anderson (Narragansett, RI/The Prout School) and freshman crew Hanna Lee (Annapolis, MD/Annapolis) placed 16th in A Division at the Atlantic Coast Women's Championship, while freshman skipper Meredith Dodd (Pittsburgh, PA/Upper St. Clair) and freshman crew Meredith Bluefeld (King of Prussia, PA/Upper Merion) were 17th in B Division. Sixth-ranked Charleston won the Atlantic Coast Women's Championship, followed by third-ranked Yale in second and fifth-ranked Brown in third. Eight races were sailed in each division on Saturday in a north-northeast win of 10 to 15 knots. Six races were sailed in each division on Sunday in a dying Northerly of 12 to 18 knots. The Washington College sailing team finishes its 2004 fall schedule next weekend at the SAISA/MAISA Regatta at Charleston. |
