7, 2004 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Members of the Washington College sailing team competed in two regattas this weekend. Washington finished ninth of 14 schools at the MAISA Fall Women's Championships, hosted by Georgetown, and 14th of 16 teams at the Freshman Atlantic Coast Championships, hosted by Navy. At the MAISA Fall Women's Championships, sophomore skipper Vanessa Anderson (Narragansett, RI/The Prout School) and freshman crew Alexandria Starks (Toms River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan) finished 11th in A Division, while freshman skipper Meredith Dodd (Pittsburgh, PA/Upper St. Clair) and freshman crew Meredith Bluefeld (King of Prussia, PA/Upper Merion) were eighth in B Division. Ninth-ranked Navy won the MAISA Fall Women's Championship, followed by 12th-ranked Georgetown in second and second-ranked Old Dominion in third. Six races were held in each division on Saturday and six more were held in each division on Sunday. The wind both days was south-southwest at 10-15 knots. Skipper Parker Mitchell (Malibu, CA/Malibu) and crew Hanna Lee (Annapolis, MD/Annapolis) finished 13th in A Division at the Freshman Atlantic Coast Championships. Skipper Alex Hood (Newport, RI/Portsmouth Abbey) and crew Tonie Domino (Crownsville, MD/Old Mill) placed 13th in B Division. Eighth-ranked Boston College took first place overall at the Freshman Atlantic Coast Championships, followed by sixth-ranked Dartmouth in second and fifth-ranked Georgetown in third. The first 12 races in each division were sailed on Saturday in a southwest wind of five to 12 knots. The final four races in each division were sailed in a three to eight knot wind from the East on Sunday. Next weekend, the Washington College sailing team is scheduled to be in action at the Atlantic Coast Dingy Championships, hosted by M.I.T., and the Women's Atlantic Coast Championships at Charleston. |
