WC Captures UMBC Spring Open
Third Regatta Win This Spring for Washington

BALTIMORE, MD -- The Washington College sailing team won a regatta for the third time this spring by finishing first of 13 teams at an abbreviated UMBC Spring Open this weekend in Baltimore, MD.

WC finished nine points in front of second-place Christopher Newport and 15 in front of third-place Maryland at the regatta, which was limited to seven races due to conditions.

Freshman skipper Alex Mudge (Baltimore, MD/Loyola Blakefield) and freshman crew Lindsey Bowman (Old Saybrook, CT/Old Saybrook) finished first in B Division, winning two races and finishing second in the other B Division race.

Freshman skipper Vanessa Anderson (Narragansett, RI/The Prout School) and freshman crew Nat Thompson (Frederick, MD/Westtown, PA) took second-place in A Division. The duo finished second, first, and sixth in the three A Division races; the fourth A Division race was wiped out from scoring due to the fact that only three B Division races were sailed.

Saturday's sailing was postponed due to lack of a sailable breeze until 12:00 p.m. when wind filled in from the northwest. The wind was light and shift in Saturday, ranging from 2-7 knots. Sunday's racing was postponed and then canceled for safety concerns. Winds from the northwest were oscillating between 15-25 knots.

The WC sailors will compete at the Maryland Spring Open, hosted by the Severn Sailing Association, next weekend.
