WC Competes at Admiral's Cup

KINGS POINT, NY -- The Washington College sailing team finished 15th of 18 teams at the Admiral's Cup, hosted by Kings Point this weekend. Harvard finished first at the regatta, followed by St. Mary's (MD) in second and Dartmouth in third.

Sophomore skipper Carl Horrocks (Point Pleasant, NJ/Point Pleasant Boro) and freshman crew Nat Thompson (Frederick, MD/Westtown, PA) represented Washington in A Division and finished 12th. Junior skipper Chad Hillyer (Summit, NJ/Morristown-Beard) and freshman crew Vanessa Anderson (Narragansett, RI/The Prout School) finished 15th in B Division. Freshman Alex Mudge (Baltimore, MD/Loyola Blakefield) sailed to a 17th place finish in C Division.

Six races were sailed in each division on Saturday morning in south and southwest winds of 5-10 knots. In the afternoon, the wind settled in from the south and eight more races were sailed in each division with the wind building to 10-15 knots. On Sunday, the remaining four races were sailed in a 5-8 knot northerly wind.

Next weekend, the WC sailors will compete at the Thompson Trophy, hosted by the United States Coast Guard Academy.
