WC Finishes Third at MAISA Sloops
Sailors Also 15th at MAISA Freshman

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The 14th-ranked Washington College sailing team finished third of 10 teams at the MAISA Sloop Championships this past weekend. WC also finished 15th of 18 teams at the MAISA Freshman Championships.

Juniors Colin Robertson (Annapolis, MD/St. Mary's) and Halle Ricker (Traceys Landing, MD/St. Mary's) and sophomore Carl Horrocks (Point Pleasant, NJ/Point Pleasant Boro) represented WC at the MAISA Sloops, hosted by New York Maritime. The top two finishers at the regatta - sixth-ranked Hobart/William Smith, which finished first, and fifth-ranked King's Point, which finished second - qualified for the ICSA Sloop Nationals.

Saturday's races at the MAISA Sloops were deemed invalid after one boat was determined to have had an unfair advantage due to a vang measurement which did not measure into the "regatta standard" measurement. Sunday's seven races were sailed in a wind increasing from 10 to 20 knots.

At the MAISA Freshman Championships, hosted by St. Mary's (MD), Washington's Alex Mudge (Baltimore, MD/Loyola Blakefield) and Sterling Schlegel (West River, MD/Key School) finished 15th in A Division, while Brian Foy (Edgewater Park, NJ) and Lindsey Bowman (Old Saybrook, CT) finished 16th in B Division. Eleventh-ranked St. Mary's won the regatta, followed by 13th-ranked Georgetown in second and sixth-ranked Hobart/William Smith in third. Races were held in southerly breezes ranging from 4-12 knots.

Washington also sailed at the King's Point Dinghy Open over the weekend, finishing seventh of 18 teams. Junior Chad Hillyer (Summit, NJ/Morristown-Beard) and sophomore BJ Leong (Washington, DC) were eighth in A Division, while freshmen Vanessa Anderson (Narragansett, RI/The Prout School) and Nat Thompson (Frederick, MD) finished 11th in B Division.

Next weekend, Washington will compete at the War Memorial, the MAISA Fall Championships, hosted by Hobart/William Smith.
