12, 2003 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The second-ranked Washington College sailing team finished sixth of 16 teams at the Hobart/William Smith Fall Intersectional held yesterday and today. Also this weekend, sophomore Carl Horrocks (Point Pleasant, NJ/Point Pleasant Boro) competed at the MAISA Men's Singlehanded Championships, hosted by King's Point. At the Hobart/William Smith Fall Intersectional, junior skipper Colin Robertson (Annapolis, MD/St. Mary's) and senior crew Jen Hanley (Sparks, MD/Maryvale Prep) finished fourth in A Division, while junior skipper Chad Hillyer (Summit, NJ/Morristown-Beard) and junior crew Halle Ricker (Traceys Landing, MD/St. Mary's) were sixth in B Division. Fifth-ranked Hobart/William Smith won the intersectional, followed by ninth-ranked Navy in second and tenth-ranked St. Mary's (MD) in third. Only two A Division races and one B Division race sailed on Saturday before a light breeze died out. Thirteen races were held on Sunday in a 10-15 knot southerly wind which died and clocked to the west as the front came through later in the afternoon. Horrocks finished 11th of 16 sailors at the MAISA Men's Singlehanded Championships. Horrocks sailed in 15-22 knot NE/E winds on Saturday morning and in 10-15 knot SE winds Saturday afternoon. Sunday's races saw NE winds of 15-18 knots. Next weekend, Washington will compete at the Navy Fall Intersectional and host the WC Open. |
