WC Finishes 8th at Danmark Trophy
Shore Sailors Also 11th at Tom Curtis

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The second-ranked Washington College sailing team competed in two regattas this weekend. WC finished eighth of 18 teams at the Danmark Trophy, hosted by the United States Coast Guard Academy, and 11th of 18 teams at the Tom Curtis Memorial, hosted by Georgetown University.

At the Danmark Trophy, senior Mike Buckley (Sandwich, MA/Tabor Academy) skippered Washington to a fourth-place finish in A Division. Buckley sailed with two different crews; sophomore skipper Carl Horrocks (Point Pleasant, NJ/Point Pleasant Boro) served as crew for 10 races, while junior Halle Ricker (Traceys Landing, MD/St. Mary's) was the crew for the other eight. Junior Colin Robertson (Annapolis, MD/St. Mary's) skippered WC to a 13th-place finish in B Division.

Third-ranked Dartmouth won the Danmark Trophy, followed by eighth-ranked Brown in second and 12th-ranked King's Point in third. Saturday's races were held in winds of 8-12 knots with higher gusts throughout the day. Sunday saw a westerly breeze of 5-10 knots.

At the Tom Curtis Memorial, freshman skipper Vanessa Anderson (Narrangansett, RI/The Prout School) and freshman crew Brian Foy (Edgewater Park, NJ) sailed to a 12th-place finish in A Division, while sophomore skipper BJ Leong (Washington, DC) and freshman crew Nat Thompson (Frederick, MD) finished 10th in B Division.

St. Mary's (MD) won the Tom Curtis, followed by Georgetown in second and Old Dominion in third. Saturday's conditions were ideal with SSW winds at 10-15 mph and little current and a slight bit of chop. Sunday's winds were light and quite shifty.

Next weekend, Washington will compete at the Hobart & William Smith Fall Intersectional. Horrocks will compete at the MAISA Singlehanded Championships at King's Point.
