WC Second at Captain Hurst
Sailors Also Compete at Riley Cup, Navy Laser Open

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The 11th-ranked Washington College sailing team took second place in a competitive field of 24 schools at Captain Hurst Bowl, an intersectional regatta hosted by Dartmouth College, this weekend. WC sailors also compete at the Riley Cup, hosted by Old Dominion, and the Navy Laser Open.

At the Captain Hurst Bowl, Washington finish behind only top-ranked Harvard. WC edged out fourth-ranked Dartmouth by two points for second place. Ninth-ranked Brown was fourth, while second-ranked Hobart/William Smith finished fifth.

WC finished fourth in both A and B Division. Senior skipper Mike Buckley (Sandwich, MA/Tabor Academy) and junior crew Halle Ricker (Traceys Landing, MD/St. Mary's) sailed in A Division, while junior skipper Colin Robertson (Annapolis, MD/St. Mary's) and senior crew Jen Hanley (Sparks, MD/Maryvale Prep) represented Washington in B Division.

Saturday's morning races at the Captain Hurst were delayed until a South-Southeast breeze filled to about eight miles per hour. Sunday saw overcast skies with showers off an on throughout the day. A light south breeze filled eventually moving East-Southeast topping out around five miles per hour.

At the Riley Cup, the Washington College contingent finished 11th of 18 teams. Junior Chad Hillyer (Summit, NJ/Morristown-Beard) and freshman Margaret Gotsch finished sixth in A Division, while freshmen Vanessa Anderson (Narragansett, RI/The Prout School) and Sterling Schlegel (West River, MD/Key School) were 10th in B Division.

Sophomore Carl Horrocks (Point Pleasant, NJ/Point Pleasant Boro) represented Washington College at the Navy Laser Open. Horrocks finished seventh of 24 sailors at the event.

Next weekend, the WC sailors are scheduled to compete at the Nevins Trophy, hosted by King's Point, the Mrs. Hurst, hosted by Dartmouth, and the Freshman Groundbreaker, hosted by New York Maritime.
