WC Fifth at MAISA Fall Championships

GENEVA, NY -- The 14th-ranked Washington College sailing team finished fifth of 16 teams at the War Memorial Regatta, the MAISA Fall Championships, held yesterday and today in Geneva, NY. The top-six finish qualified WC for the Atlantic Coast Dinghy Championships, to be held in two weeks at New York Maritime.

Junior Colin Robertson (Annapolis, MD/St. Mary's) and senior Jen Hanley (Sparks, MD/Maryvale Prep) sailed to an eighth-place finish in A Division for Washington, while sophomore Carl Horrocks (Point Pleasant, NJ/Point Pleasant Boro) and junior Halle Ricker (Traceys Landing, MD/St. Mary's) finished fifth in B Division.

Host Hobart/William Smith, ranked sixth in the nation, won the regatta. Eleventh-ranked St. Mary's (MD) finished second, while 17th-ranked Old Dominion was fourth and fifth-ranked King's Point was fourth.

Saturday's races were sailed in a light and variable northwest breeze in the morning and a slightly stronger north-northwest breeze in the afternoon. Sunday saw light and rainy conditions.
