16, 2003 ANNAPOLIS, MD - The 17th-ranked Washington College sailing team finished eighth in a competitive field of 18 teams at the Truxtun Umsted Regatta, hosted by the Naval Academy yesterday and today. The regatta featured a total of 12 nationally-ranked teams. Junior skipper Mike Buckley (Sandwich, MA/Tabor Academy) and sophomore crew Halle Ricker (Traceys Landing, MD/St. Mary's) finished second in A Division, just one point behind Charleston's division-winning tandem of Nathan Hollerbach and Emily Tayler. In B Division, sophomore skipper Nathan St. Onge (Hyannis, MA/Barnstable), sailing with freshman Beth Hendee (Stone Harbor, NJ/Middle Township) and sophomore Max von Roth (Weston, VT/Long Trail) finished 14th. Freshman Carl Horrocks (Point Pleasant, NJ/Point Pleasant Boro) skippered WC to a sixth-place finish in C Division, while sophomore Colin Robertson (Annapolis, MD/St. Mary's) skippered WC to an 11th-place finish in D Division. Eighth-ranked Hobart/William Smith won the regatta, followed by fifth-ranked Tufts in second and top-ranked Harvard in third. Washington finished with a comfortable 29 point cushion over host Navy for eighth place. The WC sailors return to action next weekend when they travel to the Southern New England Team Race, hosted by Connecticut College. |
