7, 2003 BRONX, NY -- The 10th-ranked Washington College sailing team finished fifth of eight teams in its second appearance at the MAISA Team Championships, held this weekend at SUNY-Maritime. WC moved up two spots from its seventh place finish a year ago. Washington finished with an 8-6 race record at the event. Second-ranked St. Mary's (MD) won the event, followed by sixth-ranked Georgetown in second and fifth-ranked Hobart/William Smith in third. Sailing for Washington College at the event were junior Mike Buckley (Sandwich, MA/Tabor Academy), sophomore Colin Robertson (Annapolis, MD/St. Mary's), sophomore Nathan St. Onge (Hyannis, MA/Barnstable), freshman Carl Horrocks (Point Pleasant, NJ/Point Pleasant Boro) sophomore Halle Ricker (Traceys Landing, MD/St. Mary's), freshman Melanie Baylin (Fallston, MD/North Harford), and sophomore Max Von Roth (Weston, VT/Long Trail). Saturday's races were held in a 5-10 knot westerly breeze. On Sunday, the wind picked up slightly to 10-15 knots out of the northwest. Next weekend WC will compete at the Admiral's Cup, hosted by Kings Point. |
