3, 2003 WASHINGTON, DC -- The 17th-ranked Washington College sailing team placed fifth in a competitive field of ten teams at the Georgetown Team Race this weekend in Washington, DC. Washington finished with a 6-8 record in the head-to-head formatted event. Second-ranked St. Mary's (MD) won the event with a 12-2 record. Thirteenth-ranked Georgetown was second at 11-3, followed by eighth-ranked Hobart and William Smith in third with a 10-4 record, 15th-ranked Old Dominion in fourth at 8-6, and WC in fifth. The WC Sailors finished ahead of three teams ranked ahead of them - ninth-ranked Brown (seventh place), 11th-ranked King's Point (eighth), and 14th-ranked College of Charleston (ninth place). Sailing for Washington College at the event were junior Mike Buckley (Sandwich, MA/Tabor Academy), sophomore Colin Robertson (Annapolis, MD/St. Mary's), sophomore Nathan St. Onge (Hyannis, MA/Barnstable), freshman Carl Horrocks (Point Pleasant, NJ/Point Pleasant Boro) sophomore Halle Ricker (Traceys Landing, MD/St. Mary's), freshman Beth Hendee (Stone Harbor, NJ/Middle Township), and sophomore Max Von Roth (Weston, VT/Long Trail). Winds Saturday were from the south-southeast at three-eight miles per hour. Sunday's conditions were ideal, with winds from the northwest at 10-15 mph and temperatures in the low 50's. Next weekend WC will compete at the St. Mary's (MD) Team Race. |
