16, 2003 CHARLESTON, SC - The 15th-ranked Washington College sailing team finished 11th of 18 teams at the College of Charleston Spring Intersectional held Saturday and Sunday. Ten nationally-ranked teams participated in the regatta. Sophomore Colin Robertson (Annapolis, MD/St. Mary's) and freshman Beth Hendee (Stone Harbor, NJ/Middle Township) finished seventh in A Divison. In B Division, sophomores Nathan St. Onge (Hyannis, MA/Barnstable) and Halle Ricker (Traceys Landing, MD/St. Mary's) placed 14th in B Division. Ninth-ranked Stanford won the regatta. Thirteenth-ranked
Charleston was second, followed by 16th-ranked Dartmouth in third. The weather could not have cooperated more for Saturday's racing. The sun was out all day with a warm, strong 12-18 knot SW breeze. Current was a factor at the starting line and mark roundings. Sunday's weather was not so kind. The skies were overcast most of the day with a light drizzle turning into a hard rain during the last two B-division races. The breeze was shifty from the NE/N at 5-12 knots. A strong ebb tide made for some interesting starts. The WC sailors return to action next weekend when they host a MAISA Team Race. |
