27, 2003 ST. MARY'S CITY, MD -- The 13th-ranked Washington College sailing team recorded its best-ever finish at the America Trophy, the MAISA Spring Championships, this weekend in St. Mary's City, MD. WC finished fifth of 16 teams, just one point behind seventh-ranked and fourth-place Georgetown. Washington was third in A Division as junior skipper Mike Buckley (Sandwich, MA/Tabor Academy) and sophomore crew Halle Ricker (Traceys Landing, MD/St. Mary's) finished behind only St. Mary's and Georgetown. In B Division, sophomore skipper Nathan St. Onge (Hyannis, MA/Barnstable) sailed with sophomore crew Max von Roth (Weston, VT/Long Trail) to a fifth-place finish. Third-ranked host St. Mary's (MD) College ran away with the overall championship, finishing 78 points in front of second-place and 14th-ranked Kings Point. Fifth-ranked Hobart/William Smith was third. The races were sailed in light to moderate breezes from various directions. |
