4, 2002 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College
sailing team competed in two regattas this past weekend. The team finished
eighth in a 10-team field at the Georgetown Team Race with a 5-6 match
record. WC's five wins included an upset victory over seventh-ranked
Old Dominion. The WC team for the regatta consisted of three skippers
- sophomore Mike Buckley (Sandwich, MA/Tabor Academy), freshman
Colin Robertson (Annapolis, MD/St. Mary's), and sophomore Nathan
St. Onge (Hyannis, MA/Barnstable) - and three crews - senior Lisa
Semanick (Baltimore, MD/Western Tech), senior Kristen Samuel
(Hudson, OH/Western Reserve Academy), and senior Sarah Corson
(Demarest, NJ/The Masters School, NY). Georgtown University (No. 2 in the nation)
won the regatta, followed by St. Mary's College (No. 3) in second and
Old Dominon (No. 7) in third. Meanwhile, at the Old Dominion Open, WC finished
seventh in a 16-team field. In A division, senior Simon Day (Middletown,
RI/Rocky Hill) and freshman crew Max von Roth (Weston, VT/Long
Trail) placed sixth, while in B division freshmen Chad Hillyer
(Summit, NJ/Morristown-Beard) and Diane Morrow (Tabernacle, NJ/Shawnee)
placed seventh. W.C.'s finish in this regatta was good enough to qualify
the team for the Middle Atlantic Spring Championships. St. Mary's won the Old Dominion Open, followed
by host Old Dominion in secondand Navy in third. Next weekend, the WC sailing team will be in action at the St. Mary's (MD) Team Race. |
