WC Takes 11th at Navy Fall
Buckley Skippers 3rd-Place A Division Finish

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The 17th-ranked Washington College sailing team finished 11th of 20 schools at the Navy Fall Intersectional held this past weekend. Junior Mike Buckley (Sandwich, MA/Tabor Academy) skippered WC to a third-place finish in A Division. WC also hosted the WC Open this past weekend, and finished 11th of 12 schools in that regatta.

Buckley sailed with sophomore crews Nathan St. Onge (Hyannis, MA/Barnstable) and Diane Morrow (Tabernacle, NJ/Shawnee) en route to the third-place A Division finish at Navy. Freshman Carl Horrocks (Point Pleasant, NJ/Point Pleasant Boro) skippered WC to its second-best finish at the event, taking fifth in C Division. Sophomore skipper Colin Robertson (Annapolis, MD/St. Mary's) led WC to an 11th-place finish in B Division, while junior Chad Hillyer (Summit, NJ/Morristown-Beard) skippered WC to a 16th-place finish in D Division.

Eleven of the 20 teams at the regatta are currently ranked in the top 20 nationally and two others received votes in the latest ranking. Eleventh-ranked Georgetown finished first, followed by 10th-ranked Kings Point in second and fifth-ranked Hobart/William Smith in third. Saturday's races were held in southerly winds of 8-12 knots. Sunday saw northerly winds of 2-6 knots.

At the WC Open, WC finished ninth in A Division and 12th in B Division. Sophomore Halle Ricker (Traceys Landing, MD/St. Mary's) and freshmen Beth Hendee (Stone Harbor, NJ/Middle Township) and Lauren Goetting (Point Pleasant, NJ/Point Pleasant) sailed in A Division, while sophomores Max von Roth (Weston, VT/Long Trail) and Sarah Amato (Spring Lake Heights, NJ/Manasquan) and freshman Jim Cheston (Easton, MD/Sts. Peter & Paul) sailed in B Division.

St. Mary's (MD) won the WC Open with Old Dominion finishing second and Cornell finishing third. Saturday's races were held in strong southwest winds of 15-25 knots. Sunday's winds came from the northwest at 5-10 knots.

The Washington College sailing team will compete at the Hoyt Trophy, hosted by Brown University, this coming Saturday and Sunday.
